On the surface, the two issues have plenty of differences. After all, farmers residing near that township intersection where a new mosque is being built don't have to face daily the open pit where the Twin Towers once stood. Still, 9/11 delivered a gut-punch to much of the nation, and the lingering pain has left many less lenient toward those who practice Islam.
